Įgyvendinama Nacionalinės imunoprofilaktikos 2014 – 2018 metų programos nuostatas, Valstybinė ligonių kasa prie Sveikatos apsaugos ministerijos (toliau VLK) vykdo viešuosius pirkimus vakcinai nuo žmogaus papilomos viruso įsigijimui.
Nuo šių metų rugsėjo 1 d. nemokamai bus skiepijamos mergaitės, kurios gimė 2005 m. po rugsėjo 1 d. ir 2016 m. rugsėjo 1 d. ir vėliau joms sueis vienuolika metų nuo žmogaus papilomos viruso, pagal sveikatos apsaugos ministro 2015 m. birželio 12 d. įsakymu Nr. V-757 patvirtintą vaikų profilaktinių skiepijimų kalendorių.
Europoje į nacionalinius vaikų profilaktinius skiepijimų kalendorius mergaičių skiepijimus nuo žmogaus papilomos viruso yra įtraukusios 26 šalys. Didžiausias mergaičių skiepijimo apimtis nuo žmogaus papilomos viruso yra pasiekusi Jungtinė Karalystė – 92 proc., o kitose šalyse siekia 60 – 80 proc. Lietuvoje pagal statistinę ataskaitos formą Nr. 8 „Profilaktinių skiepijimų ataskaita”, kasmet savo lėšomis pasiskiepija nuo 500 iki 700 mergaičių iki 18 metų amžiaus.
Pasaulyje gimdos kaklelio vėžys užima ketvirtą vietą tarp dažniausiai pasitaikančių vėžio formų. Pasaulio sveikatos organizacijos duomenimis 2012 m. pasaulyje nuo gimdos kaklelio vėžiu sirgo apie 530 000 moterų. Europoje gimdos kaklelio vėžys yra antroje vietoje po krūties vėžio ir registruojama apie 33 000 susirgimo atvejų. Lietuvos vėžio registro duomenimis, kasmet Lietuvoje gimdos kaklelio vėžys nustatomas nuo 400 iki 500 moterų, o mirtingumas siekia 10 atvejų 100 000 gyventojų ir tai vienas iš aukščiausių rodiklių Europos regione.
Vertinant aukštus gimdos kaklelio vėžio sergamumo ir mirtingumo rodiklius pasaulyje, Europoje ir Lietuvoje ir žinant, kad apie 99 proc. gimdos kaklelio vėžio atvejų nulemia žmogaus papilomos virusas.
